This staff or stick is made of wood and horn, is of a model that once was used by Sami women. It could be used as a walking stick but was most useful for steering the reindeer when riding in a sledge. So don't be surprised if you see a staff like this used since the Sami's have began to use reindeers as draughtanimals again.

Realm of magic and beauty.
In the not so distant past, drums like these was used as a ceremonial rhythminstrument and for contacting the spirit world. Today we can see images from drums like these reproduced in advertising and used by modern artists. On these two drums we can see these images as they where supposed to be viewed, together and often interacting with each other. If you choose, these drums might also be seen as examples of expressionistic Sami art. This model is sometimes called a bowl drum.
