FOURTH
WORLD
INDIGENOUS
YOUTH
CONFERENCE
During the first WIYC we gathered to see if it was a good idea for indigenous youth to meet and exchange information. We got a forum where we could exchange backgrounds and experiences. We danced, cried, danced some more and went home with a conviction that the theme of the conference ”The Beginning of a New Era....” was something that would come true.
Vision
On the second WIYC conference we started to define a vision with the theme ”Claiming our future -the reality of where we are and where we are going” There was several steps towards realizing the initial ideas. There was a breaktrough since our thoughts and views got international attention. When the resolutions of the conference was adressed to the UN it got an enthusiastic reception. We showed ourselves and the world that we could be an entity to recon with.
Inspiration
3’rd WIYC gave us a perspective. Shure we indigenous people have a lot in common but there’s also differences that we have to consider. We where inspired by the contacts with each other, we realized that the multitude of cultures is something that we have to preserve and that there’s lots of things that we have to learn about each other. Even though we are all strong in our beliefs, it is sometimes a strength of different kinds. Thorugh solidarity and openmindedness we could help each other to heal our souls.
Action
With the 4’th WIYC we know where we have been and what we want to achieve. Lets do something! The network for the indigenous peoples has grown. There’s a representation for more different ethnic groups than ever. Even if all of us hasn’t attended the previous conferences we’ve all been part of the process. Lets use these experiences, ideas, spirit and -hopefully- surplus energy from the previous conferences to find a way of continue this important work.
-Lets do something -NOW!
